Illinois golf travel welcomes you with Midwest charm, championship tests, and endless entertainment options. In this blog, we explore four golf trips in Illinois that promise great golf courses and plenty of add-on options to complete your trip.
Chicago
When we talk about Illinois golf trips, the conversation starts (and ends for most) with the Chicago area. Public and private championship golf courses dot the area. If you’re lucky enough to receive an invitation, there are historical private venues like Chicago Golf Club and Medinah Country Club. But there are also fantastic public courses like Cog Hill Golf & Country Club’s Dubsdread which hosted the Western Open for years, the Glen Club which hosts a Korn Ferry Tour event, and Harborside Golf Club anchored within the city limits, to create a memorable Chicago golf trip. Most of the golf courses are a car trip outside of the city, but staying downtown among the bars, restaurants, and venues, still makes the most sense.
Dining and entertainment in Chicago are also can’t-miss experiences. When it comes to food, the superficial answer is deep-dish pizza and hot dogs, but the Chicago culinary scene runs deeper with everything from casual option food halls to fine dining Michelin Star restaurants. For entertainment, experience Chicago staples like The Second City Improv Club for a laugh or Buddy Guy’s Legends for live blues music. Museums, sports, and concerts offer yet another option to add to your golf trip.
Illinois Golf Swing
Outside of Chicago, few Illinois cities offer golf, accommodations, and entertainment to fully satisfy the full golf trip experience, but three additional areas deserve mention.
Galena
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a golf trip to Galena, a charming town in northwest Illinois. In Galena, you'll discover scenic courses surrounded by views of the countryside. Tee off at the Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, boasting four courses designed by some of golf's biggest names, including Roger Packard and Andy North. Don't miss the challenging General Golf Course, consistently ranked among the top courses in the state for its dramatic elevation changes and stunning vistas (for Illinois!).
Peoria
Head south in the Land of Lincoln to Peoria for a golf getaway in the home city of Caterpillar (CAT). Start with a round at Weaverridge Golf Club, then test your skills at Quail Meadows Golf Course, a scenic 18-hole course nestled along the Illinois River. Visit Starved Rock State Park for a hike.
Silvis
The final stop is TPC Deere Run in the Quad Cities. Annual host of the John Deere Classic in July, the course and facility are top-notch. Play where the pros play annually, where the winner shoots 20 - 30 under par over four days.
